Trial and error is still the name of the game. But this time, it is the real deal. No more trials are given for us. We get one shot, one email, one call, and one interview to express ourselves in the best way possible. There’s more to oneself than just how academically gifted they are. Your attitude, your etiquette, your politeness, and your nature all play a role in whether or not you get accepted for the position. And that was something I needed to work on. The professional manners, professional emails, even the professional attitude. To prepare ourselves to shine the brightest to our mentor, we had to become a professional. We heard about past ISM students losing their opportunities because their actions were unprofessional. Even if they were academically the best in their class, the result of looking unprofessional hinders the chances of having them as your mentor. Those past mistakes will be the driving force of students today, like me. Preparing myself to speak like a professional, to further my respect for my alumni, and to look professional have all been tasks I have been doing over the past week. And the week has ended, and my confidence has risen. Although there were many trials including failing my voicemails, stuttering on my phone calls, and forgetting to send my emails, there have been many changes to improve and obtain success. Those changes have been the ones that I’ve been seeking, but that can only be found through the perfection of professionalism.
